A person who forms opinions about religion on the basis of
reason, independently of tradition, authority, or established
belief. Freethinkers include atheists, agnostics and
rationalists.
No one can be a freethinker who demands conformity to a bible,
creed or messiah. To the freethinker, revelation and faith are
invalid and orthodoxy is no guarantee of truth.
Freethinkers of Ventura County has two specific purposes: the promotion of the constitutional principle of separation of state and church and the education of the public on matters related to non-theistic belief. The organization is both educational and social.
The Freethinkers of Ventura County meet monthly at the Best Western Camarillo Inn, 295 Daily Drive, Suite #5 . Special events at alternate locations will be announced in advance.
Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7:30 PM. On May 12 Charlotte Poe will perform a reading of comedienne/actress Julia Sweeney's popular one- woman show: "Letting Go of God." A Donation of $5 would be appreciated towards the cost of the meeting room. For further information, call Charlotte at (805)386-4232.
LUNCHEON: An informal luncheon is held on the second Friday of the month at alternating locations. The lunch in May will be on Friday the 16th at noon at the Souplantation Restaurant, 375 W. Ventura Blvd. (Near Home Depot) in Camarillo.
FREETHOUGHT SALON (Discussion Group): New Location! Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery, 185 E. Daily Dr. in Camarillo (across the street from our meeting room). They have a nice little room, directly to the left of the entrance. It is kindly suggested that everyone order a beverage, appetizer, or piece of pie. How about if all participants order a whole pie to chare? Please bring fascinating, provocative topics to discuss.
